Unmarked mass graves containing the remains of a total of 56 people have been found in northern Mexico, not far from the US border.
Prosecutors in Chihuahua state said in a statement that the graves were found earlier this week and that the bodies were exhumed with the help of the military.
On Monday, authorities in the state of Jalisco said a mass grave on the outskirts of the million-dollar city of Guadalajara, found in December, contained the remains of 24 people.
At the end of December, two more graves were reported to have been found in the states of Chiapas and Chihuahua with a total of 43 bodies.
Since the Mexican government launched a war against the cartels in 2006, over 450,000 murders have been recorded in the country. Tens of thousands more people have disappeared, according to official figures.
