Eight years have passed since Michael Mann was last represented with a new film on the big screen. Most recently, he developed the thriller series Tokyo Vice for the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max). Now he is returning to cinema with a project he has been developing since the early 2000s: Ferrari.

Ferrari is a biopic that takes up elements of the action film and racing film. The film tells about EnzoFerrari, the founder of the Italian car manufacturer Ferrari. Specifically, the plot is dedicated to the tragic events in the summer of 1957, which were particularly formative for the protagonist of the story.
Enzo Ferrari’s company is in crisis, his marriage is falling apart and the competition is leaving his models behind on the racetrack. With a daring bet in the 1000-mile race Mille Migilia he wants to fix everything. But then there is a devastating accident, after which the race never took place again.

Adam Driver, who stars in the new Star Wars trilogy Villain Kylo Ren was seen, embodies the eponymous leading role. The cast also includes Penélope Cruz and Shailene Woodley. Cruz plays Laura, Ferrari’s wife, while Woodley takes on the role of Lina Lardi, with whom Enzo Ferrari had an affair.
When will Michael Mann’s Ferrari be in cinemas?
Ferrari will celebrate its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on August 31, 2023. It will be released in US cinemas on December 25, 2023. When does the film start in Germany? is unfortunately not yet certain. After the strong trailer, we really hope we won’t have to wait too long. Last but not least, Ferrari has a good chance of playing a decisive role at the next Oscars.
