For die-hard action fans, Netflix will soon have a special film on offer. Together with an ex-soldier we travel through the Finnish wasteland – until the Nazis get involved.
What film is it about? The film Sisu can be streamed on Netflix from November 1, 2024. It is a mixture of action and war film and comes from Finland. Directed by Jalmari Helander.
Sisu was originally released in cinemas in 2022, but now the tough film can also be enjoyed in your own living room. How much fun you will have with it depends on your viewing habits. Just recently, another tough action film celebrated success on Netflix.
The Nazis are on the hook
What is Sisu about? The film tells about Aatami. He is a former soldier and served on the battlefields of World War II. However, the war is not over yet as the story takes place in 1944.
Aatami has retreated to Lapland and lives there only with his animals, a dog and a horse. One day he comes across a vein of gold and is suddenly a rich man. The problem: The next bank where he wants to take the treasure is over 800 kilometers away.
Aatami sets out and quite unexpectedly encounters a unit of German soldiers on the way. The SS men find the gold and a conflict ensues. But they didn’t count on the Finn’s will to fight – and his ruthlessness.
Who is the film suitable for? You shouldn’t be squeamish when it comes to the topic of violence in films. Sisu already shows in the trailer that Aatami takes no prisoners. The age rating from 18 years is definitely justified. Action fans should be prepared for some brutal scenes.
In some moments they are reminiscent of the uncompromising nature of John Wick. Similar to the killer portrayed by Keanu Reeves, Aatami is also very efficient when it comes to fighting his opponents. By the way, “Sisu” means something like “don’t give up” or “fighting spirit” in Finnish. John Wick himself has a nickname that instills similar fear in his enemies.
How was the film received? Sisu received mostly positive reviews when it was released in 2022. To date, it maintains a 94% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers rate it at 88%.
The film also won five categories at the Finnish film award “Jussi”. If you haven’t seen it yet and enjoy hard action films, you can give the film a chance on Netflix soon. Genre fans can find more film tips on MeinMMO: 5 action films over 18 for die-hard film fans
