Accused his wife of infidelity, then he went on the attack

Was filmed by an eyewitness • The children’s warnings to the mother • The defense: Just wanted to scare

On Friday, a 35-year-old man was charged with trying to kill his wife by stabbing and cutting her with a knife, including in the abdomen and chest.

The crime took place in the garage driveway of their shared home in Kalmar municipality, in September 2024, in front of an acquaintance of the woman who called 112.

– He stands by her and holds her by the foot and he kicks her in the face. He stands on her neck, he stands on her neck, says the desperate witness in the emergency call.

In the investigation, it has emerged that one of the couple’s children was in the home until shortly before the incident and that the child warned his mother and “father is angry” before she came home. The children also recorded videos shortly before the assault, images that are now being used as evidence against the man.

Eyewitnesses filmed the attack

Furthermore, there are two films filmed by an eyewitness, which show parts of the act itself. In the pictures, which TV4 Nyheterna has seen, you can see how the man lies over the woman with a knife in his hand.

The woman’s injuries are not considered to cause any permanent damage.

– A motive for the crime must be that he suspected that she was unfaithful and that through the deed he would preserve and restore his own and the family’s honor, says senior prosecutor Lise-Lotte Norström, who is the head of the preliminary investigation, in a press release.

The man: “Just wanted to scare her”

The man has admitted to attacking his wife but claims he never intended to kill her.

– I just wanted to scare her. I think it was a kitchen knife. I got the knife from the kitchen. I was thinking if she comes with the person I suspect she is with. The knife wasn’t for her, it was for the guy who
picked up my wife, says the man in questioning with the police.

– If I had intended to kill her, I would have done it, he says further.

The interrogator asks how many times the man stabbed his wife.

– I don’t know, but at least I didn’t hit the heart. I hadn’t meant to kill her, not hurt her. Everything went quickly. I wanted to know names. I said “say name, say who, who”, he replies.

The prosecutor believes that the crime is particularly aggravating as it was intended to harm the security of a child and that the motive for the crime was to preserve or restore one’s own honor and that of the family. The prosecutor also writes that the man has “shown extreme recklessness”.
