(Finance) – “Let’s take care of the heart of our business, that is tax consultancylet’s fight to make it increasingly simpler and more rewarding to operate in this area, we strongly promote the idea of assigning accountants the role of certifiers whenever there are operations in which there is a transfer of public funds towards the economic system. On these topics the The National Council is busy on a daily basis, is an important part of our mandate. But I want to launch an appeal to our colleagues: let’s look with curiosity and commitment to new professional fields, let’s be ready for the changes that the market offers us, let’s take a proactive attitude towards the new that is advancing. This is not an option, but I would say a precondition for any reasoning about the future of the profession. By changing we survive and grow, remaining anchored to a present that is partly already the past, we risk perishing. This is a discussion of truth that we must have with frankness, which we can no longer postpone. This is why I speak of cultural change as an obligatory strategic choice”. This was stated by the president of the accountants, Elbano de Nuccio, during the national congress of the category currently being held in Turin.
De Nuccio gave three examples of areas in which in his opinion “the category must have a completely new approach“. “First of all, the sustainabilitysynonymous with the future for the next generations, but also for professions and businesses”. Then, in the tax field, the cooperative compliance, which involves professionals, and primarily accountants, in an operational and functional manner in the certification of tax risk within business systems. An innovation that radically changes the approach both for us and for the officials and managers of the financial administration. A real revolution, a paradigm shift for which we are probably not yet skilled. We must work hard on this front in terms of training”. Another example is “the logic of early warning and forward looking daughter of the new code of business crisis, which also assigns us an enormously increased and truly decisive role. But working on the prevention and rapid emergence of the crisis and on planning the strategic, operational and economic-financial programming of companies is a radical change of perspective. We need a new mentality that we must acquire as soon as possible, overturning consolidated logic.”
The president of the category then argued that “the crisis of attractiveness that our profession, like many others, is experiencing, is fought both by better defining its role, to make it more easily intelligible even to young people what an accountant does and why it is still a fascinating and useful profession for citizens, businesses and institutions”, and “also better defining its responsibilities”.
