According to the Supreme Court of Venezuela, the opposition has not provided evidence of electoral fraud | News in brief

The election result has been widely disputed both in Venezuela and abroad.

In Venezuela, the country’s Supreme Court says the opposition has not provided it with evidence of alleged election fraud. At the same time, the judiciary warned that its decision on determining the winner of the election will be final.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Commission (CNE) declared a president ruling the country autocratically Nicolas Maduro as the winner of the elections held at the end of July.

The Supreme Court of the country summoned the persons who were candidates in the elections, but the opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez didn’t show up because he was afraid of being arrested.

The Election Commission has not announced detailed voting results. Instead, the opposition has published voting data online, based on which Gonzalez is the election winner.

The election result has been widely disputed both in Venezuela and abroad. Earlier this week, the left-wing governments of Brazil, Colombia and Mexico demanded that the electoral commission release election vote data.
