A coin to enslave them, find them all, drive them into the darkness and bind them forever… Okay, the Netflix gangster series Crooks is probably not quite as Middle Earth-dramatic. But it could come close if we look at the teaser trailer. Because even in the heist drama of 4 Blocks showrunner Marvin Kren, a golden individual piece causes a lot of death and trouble.
A German money house?
In Crooks, the former safe cracker Charlie (Frederick Lau) from Berlin has long since withdrawn from crooked business when his criminal past catches up with him. In order to protect his family, he has to rob a valuable coin with the Viennese clan driver Joseph (Christoph F. Krutzler). But the job is anything but smooth and trouble begins for the thieving duo extremely dangerous road trip across Europe. While Charlie and Joseph make their way from Berlin via Vienna to Marseille, an Austrian red light king, the Corsican mafia, a Russian gang boss and other scoundrels from the German capital are soon hot on their heels… The involuntary accomplices get out of the scene unscathed out?
When it comes to Netflix’s heist drama, the first thing that comes to mind is of course the Spanish in-house production Money Heist. It was so successful between 2017 and 2021 that an Asian spin-off called Money Heist: Korea and a character-related spin-off called Berlin have already been sent after it.
