According to Seoul a Chinese cyberattack was launched against South

According to South Korean authorities, a group of hackers Chinese launched an offensive on the sites of twelve South Korean institutions in the field of education during the period of the Lunar New Year. This is not the first time that Seoul claims to have suffered cyberattacks from its Chinese neighbor, especially since relations have cooled between the two countries.

The South Korean police opened an investigation, this Wednesday, January 25, after the cyberattacks of the long weekend of the Lunar New Year celebrated elsewhere in South Korea as in China. According to the authorities, twelve websites of academic institutions were targeted by Xiaoqiying, the name of the group of hackers Chinese.

The latter claim for their part on their Telegram channel to have “hacked” 79 sites, and threaten to publish a large amount of personal information of the employees of the agencies concerned. But, they do not intend to stop there, and declared ” the invasion of the south korean internet by targeting 2,000 government websites.

The Xiaoqiying group seems openly opposed to South Korea, but denies any relationship with the Chinese authorities. The exact reasons for this attack remain unclear as it occurs in a heavy context between the two countries.

Short-term visas suspended

An investigation is being carried out to determine whether China has established an illegal police station in Seoul in order to repatriate its nationals opposed to the regime. Last week, Chinese authorities suspended short-term visas for South Koreans until the end of the month. A response to a similar decision by South Korea, in the face of rising Covid-19 cases across the Yellow Sea.
