According to Reuters Finland bans nuclear weapons and NATO bases

Prime minister Sanna Marin criticizes the international news agency Reuters for misrepresenting his comments.

Reuters reported today that Finland will not allow the deployment of nuclear weapons or NATO military bases in the country.

Reuters has used Il Corriere Della Sera, Italy’s leading newspaper, as the source for its news. to whom Marin recently gave an interview.

Marin writes on Twitter that he has not closed the doors to any future solutions regarding NATO membership, but has described Finland now focusing on membership negotiations. Marin says he has asked Reuters to correct the news.

Reuters has apparently misinterpreted an Italian-language newspaper article about Marini’s interview.

In an interview, Marin is asked how he views the deployment of permanent NATO bases or nuclear weapons in Finland.

Marin answers as follows.

– This is not a topical debate, and we are not discussing this right now. These are national decisions. No one comes to Finland and orders nuclear weapons or permanent bases to be placed there if Finland does not want them. So this theme is not on the agenda. Besides, I don’t think anyone has an interest in deploying nuclear weapons or opening NATO bases in Finland, Marin says.
