Acclaimed pianist coming to St. Andrew’s

An acclaimed pianist, singer and conductor will bring his talents to St. Andrew’s United Church on Jan. 20 as part of the Saturdays at 7 series.

Mark Payne, a Newfoundland native, now based in London, will perform his show, ‘I Love a Piano,’ which will feature various music genres and styles.

Many will recognize him as the resident music director for the Victoria Playhouse in Petrolia. He also has presented many freelance performances as an entertainer.

Payne serves as the pianist/music director for the Anglican Church of the Ascension and is co-conductor for the Amabile Primus Men’s Choir in London.

“Mark has performed virtually every conceivable role with orchestras and opera companies across Canada. He loves great music, loves to enjoy life and loves to laugh,” stated a media release from St. Andrew’s. “He demonstrates these loves in programs that result in a great evening of entertainment.”

His education includes degrees from Memorial University and University of Toronto, where he obtained a masters in music in piano performance and literature. He also studied music at prestigious institutions in London, England, New York City and San Francisco.

Payne can connect the audiences to the music of great performers such as Queen, Gershwin, Elton John, Liberace, Victor Borge and Beethoven.

Doors open at 6:30 pm Tickets are $30 and available from the church office or online at www.standrewschatham.org/events.

All proceeds go to support the music program at St. Andrew’s.
