More children were born hungry in 2024
At least 18.2 million children were born into hunger in 2024, which means 35 children every minute.
That is an increase of more than 800,000 compared to the year before, writes Rädda Barnen.
The reasons why so many children are born into hunger are mainly conflicts, flight and extreme weather events, according to the organization that has analyzed data from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization FAO.
Another contributing reason is said to be that food, globally speaking, has become more expensive.
The calculation does not include Gaza – where there have been several warnings of famine – because the FAO does not include figures from the occupied Palestinian territories.
