Sweden’s largest independent school group Academedia opposes the government’s and SD’s proposal to register undocumented children.

– I think it’s wrong, he says in a radio interview.

Academedia will not ask its teachers and principals to report undocumented people if the obligation to report is introduced, according to the school group’s CEO, Marcus Strömberg.

– I think it is wrong that teachers and school staff should be tasked with identifying people who do not have the right to be in Sweden. Being a teacher is a big trust, he says in Ekot’s Saturday interview.

According to Strömberg, this fiduciary duty risks being affected if the so-called reporting duty is followed.

Right now, the government is preparing a proposal to force teachers, health workers and social workers to report undocumented people. It is still unclear who will be covered by the reporting obligation.

– When the large waves of immigration came to Sweden, many of our schools went to great lengths to take care of these students, so for us this issue is very strong, says Strömberg.

According to Migration Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M), it is about the resources available going to those who have reasons for protection, not to people who have had their asylum application rejected or are staying in the country without a legal basis.
