In the men’s football league, second place KuPS suffered their third loss in a row on Friday, when they lost away to AC Oulu 0-1.
AC Oulu, which is tenth in the series, scored the winning goal in the 79th minute Niklas Jokelainen.
Captain Jokelainen was able to finish easily of Daniel Barrow for excellent preliminary work in the 79th minute. The goal was Jokelainen’s third of the season, and all of them have come in the last three games.
The defeat was bitter for KuPS, as even a point would have been enough to lift the team past HJK at the top of the league. Now HJK leads the league on equal points with KuPS and VPS.
– We were miserable in the last third. We probably had the ball for 80 percent of the game, but we didn’t create anything at all. Upper end men have a big place to look in the mirror, KuPSin Petteri Pennanen criticize.
AC Oulu’s season has been difficult, but the team has won 1–0 at home against both HJK and KuPS. They are the Oulu team’s only wins and only clean sheets of the season.
The league game was the first for the new head coach of AC Oulu To Konstantinos Bratsos. Under his leadership, AC Oulu won the Finnish Cup on Tuesday, so the Greek pilot has gotten off to a flying start.
KuPS had won all nine previous meetings between the teams at the league level with a goal difference of 24–5. Two of the matches were played in 2010. All others are matches from the 2020s.
