  • New alarm in Gaza – poliovirus discovered

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is acute and continues to worsen. There is a lack of clean water, sanitation and functioning healthcare.

Now the risk of various diseases spreading is also increasing, and this week poliovirus was discovered in several samples of waste water. Polio can lead to deformities and paralysis.

So far, no cases of disease have been reported, but the World Health Organization (WHO) still assesses that the risk of spread is very high.

    – This risk must be taken very seriously, not least because polio primarily affects the most vulnerable, children under the age of five. In order to prevent the spread of polio, immediate measures are required such as improving water and sanitation, and that routine vaccinations are resumed, says Daniel Wallinder, acting international director at the Swedish Red Cross.

Polio was eradicated from Gaza over 25 years ago thanks to a massive vaccination campaign.

According to prosecutor Tomas Olvmyr, there was a special reason to detain the girl even though she had not yet turned 18.

    – It is obvious that satisfactory monitoring cannot be arranged, said prosecutor Tomas Olvmyr at the hearing.

  • No witnesses to drowning – getting help from UK

Last Friday, Sajawal Aziz was found at the bottom of a swimming pool in the bath house in Alingsås. Today the police confirmed that he died.

They have been working on the case for a week – but they still have no idea how the boy ended up under the surface of the water. This is stated by the local police area manager in Alingsås for Gothenburg Post.

    – There are uncertainties when it is a young person who dies. If he has hit something, are there any injuries? Has he drowned, as a result of what? Or is it a pounding? That is what we want to find out, says Johan Lundberg.

There is still no witness to the incident.

So now the Swedish police will contact their British counterpart to see if new witness information from Aziz’s teammates, or others who were at the scene, has been added.

    – We have not received information that anyone has reacted to anything, but we will still hear people in his team, that is our ambition, says Johan Lundberg to GP.
