The official abstention figures at 5 p.m. fell, and the French did not turn out massively at the polls. The abstention rate at 5 p.m. is historically high : 60.58% ! The department in which the French abstained the most is the Seine-Saint-Denis with 72.28% abstention. Conversely, the voters of Lot showed more interest in voting (47.63%).
Abstention could have a strong impact on this first round of legislative elections due to the very nature of this ballot and its qualification rules for the second round. If abstention were to reach new heights, the oppositions would undoubtedly be deprived of many qualifications for the second round via triangular or quadrangular. In the legislative elections, candidates must reach 12.5% of registered voters (and not of the votes cast) to qualify for the second round.
