In The Lobster, singles go on an absurd search for a couple
David (Colin Farrell) is left by his wife for another man. The problem: Only couples are allowed to stay in his city. All singles are shipped to a hotel by the sea and have to find their dream partner within 45 days. If they fail, they will be transformed into an animal of their choice. The deadline can be extended by a weekly hunt.

David’s brother in The Lobster
David’s brother didn’t make it and has already become a dog. The siblings check into the hotel and look for a partner for David. However, David meets a group of singles in the forestwho have escaped the absurd search for a partner.
In the group there is a short-sighted woman (Rachel Weisz). The two share an inconspicuous similarity, which brings them closer together. But the leader of the rebel group (Léa Seydoux) doesn’t like that at all.
The Lobster is one of the best films of 2016
The comedy fascinates not only because of its impressive cast, but also because of its original premise. Life in the hotel is completely different than life in the forest, but at first glance neither world seems to be the perfect solution. From this contrast, the co-authors Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou gain plenty of black humor that is always offensive. Who Lanthimos’ youngest Science fiction film Poor Things with Emma Stone If you like, you should definitely check out the slightly more melancholic The Lobster. Not least because of Colin Farrell, who plays with fantastic sensitivity.
No wonder The Lobster not only in 5th place of the best comedies from 2016 ends up with you, but also in 15th place of the best films of this year.
The film also does well in general: The Lobster has a rating of 7.1/10on Rotten Tomatoes there is even enough for one Recommendation rate of 87% with the expert jury. If you want to see this unique premise for yourself, you can do so now on Netflix.
