On the Hunt for the Jewel of the Nile takes place shortly after the story of its predecessor. The romance between adventurer Jack T. Colton (Douglas) and writer Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) has grown cold. To combat her writer’s block, Wilder accepts the lucrative offer of the Arab ruler Omar (Spiros Focás). But the soon turns out to be a cruel tyrant, who has the so-called Jewel of the Nile in his power.

The Hunt for the Jewel of the Nile was plagued by severe problems during filming and did not reach anywhere near the popularity of the first film (via Metacritic). Maybe one reason why nobody initially seemed interested in a sequel.

From 2007 onwards, production studio Fox showed serious ambitions to create a remake of the first part. Gerard Butler (300) and Taylor Kitsch (Battleship) were discussed as Colton (via Screenrant). But here too there has been radio silence for several years.
