Abramovich to European Court of Justice: Lift sanctions

Abramovich to European Court of Justice Lift sanctions

Three Russian oligarchs, including Roman Abramovich, want the sanctions they have been imposed to enforce. They have therefore turned to the European Court of Justice, a spokesman for the court states.

In addition to Abramovich, Michail Fridman and Pyotr Aven have gone to court.

The three stormy businessmen were blacklisted by the EU in February and March due to Russia’s offensive war in Ukraine. EU sanctions consist of travel bans and frozen assets.

The owner 19 years ago, the Russian Roman Abramovich, put the club up for sale in March, shortly after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A few days later, Britain imposed sanctions on several oligarchs, including Abramovich, with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, making it difficult to sell.

But on Monday, the sale of the football club to a consortium led by the American billionaire Todd Boehly was completed.
