The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that the Russian billionaire Abramovich was the subject of the talks between Zelenskiy and Biden, based on sources with knowledge on the subject.
According to the report, Zelenskiy asked the United States not to include Abramovich on the sanction list due to his potential to mediate with Putin. The White House then reached the Treasury Department, which prepared the sanctions list, and ensured that Abramovich and his companies were not included in the list.
Abramovich, who was included in the sanctions list by the EU and the UK, was not included in the US sanctions list.
No statement was made from the White House and the Treasury Department regarding the issue.
The US administration, in coordination with the EU, decided to impose sanctions on many Russian oligarchs in the previous week, and their assets were frozen.
