Anders Sörensen was chosen as the interim head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks, after Luke Richardson, the previous head coach of the team that started its season sluggishly, was fired.
Swedish coach Anders Sorensen has been appointed interim head coach of the NHL team Chicago Blackhawks. Replaces Sörense Luke Richardsonwho was relieved of his duties.
The club announced the coach changes on the night between Thursday and Friday Finnish time.
Chicago is at the bottom of the Central Division standings. It has played 26 matches this season, of which it has won only eight.
– As we have started to take steps forward in our rebuilding process, we felt that the results did not meet our expectations of a higher level of performance this season. In the end, we decided that a change is necessary, the club’s general manager Kyle Davidson comment.
At the same time, the 49-year-old Sörensen became the first Swedish-born head coach in the NHL. He moved to the position from behind the bench of the AHL team Rockford IceHogs.
