Around 80 migrants were rescued by British authorities on Thursday after their boat ran into distress in the English Channel.
The migrants were on their way to the UK from France when they ran into difficulties on the perilous waters between the two countries. The British Coastguard dispatched two helicopters to assist in the rescue operation.
– The search has now ended and all people are back on land, said a spokesperson for the coast guard after the operation.
Over 10,000 people are estimated to have completed the journey in 2024, which is a sharp increase from the year before.
