A company spokesperson said a third-party construction crew damaged a low-pressure gas main while doing work on Colborne Street North near Maple Street.

The outage extends in town, west of Hwy 24 to Queen Street and south of Hwy 3 to West Street.

“A mix of residential and small commercial lost gas service,” said Leanne McNaughton, supervisor of media relations for Enbridge.

“The pipeline has since been repaired. Enbridge crews and our Lakeside contractor are going door-to-door to turn off gas at the meters, allowing us to safely reintroduce gas to the system. We will then complete equipment safety checks and relight customers.”

McNaughton said they expect most customers to have gas service restored by Wednesday.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to resolve the situation safely.”

Kaley’s Restaurant and Kaley’s Kakes on Robinson Street posted on Facebook Tuesday that they remain open despite having no natural gas to operate their equipment.

“We do have some items, of course, that aren’t available, but we are being creative and have dug out induction burners and have our electric convection going,” said the post.

“We thank you for your patience. This is frustrating for sure, and I appreciate your support through this.”
