It is an ambitious plan for expanded nuclear power that was presented during the climate meeting in Dubai on Saturday. Sweden is one of the countries that was part of a core group that drafted the declaration.
— This is a big day for Sweden, a big day for nuclear power and a big day for a realistic pace increase in the transition, says the Minister of Energy and Industry Ebba Busch (KD).
In order to achieve net zero emissions, electricity demand will increase sharply. The way there is nuclear power, according to Ebba Busch.
Does this mean that Sweden will triple its nuclear power capacity until 2050?
— Much more nuclear power will be required, but we will not lock in a figure for how much of it will account for compared to other types of energy.
— Sweden makes a commitment to increase nuclear power production, but we will also contribute to the increase in other countries, among other things through the energy research investment we will present in the future.
According to Ebba Busch, the foundation of Swedish nuclear power will lie in the roadmap that was presented in mid-November. In it, it is stated that there will be new nuclear power with an output equivalent to at least two large-scale reactors that must be in place by 2035 at the latest and a “massive” expansion of nuclear power by 2045.
