This is a new step in the anti-abortion fight of American conservatives. The state of Wyoming is the first state to ban the abortion pill since March 17.

This is a first in the United States: the state of Wyoming, whose largest city is Cheyenne, a few days ago became the first state to ban the abortion pill.

Call for a ban on abortion

State Governor Mark Gordon has signed a bill banning the prescription, sale, and use of the abortion pill, as well as any drug that can induce abortion, except where the mother’s life is in danger.

The law, which is expected to go into effect next summer on July 1, provides violators with a sentence of up to six months in prison and a $9,000 fine, according to the New York Times.

Mark Gordon said during this announcement: “I believe that all life is sacred and that every individual, including unborn children, should be treated with dignity and compassion”. He now wants the ban on abortion to be enshrined in the Wyoming Constitution, while submitting this registration to the vote of voters.

Fifteen states have already banned abortion

Already, about fifteen American states have banned abortion, since the revocation last year by the Supreme Court of the Roe vs. Wade decision which authorized women to have recourse to it.

After this announcement concerning the abortion pill, another decision is now expected soon in Texas, where an ultra-conservative federal judge, Matthew Kacsmaryk, must render a decision on a possible federal ban on mifepristone (RU 486).

This pill, authorized since 2000 by the American health authorizations (FDA), is widely used for medical terminations of pregnancy.
