The requirement for a medical abortion to be performed on a medical facility should be based on the Swedish abortion law.
This is proposed by Health Minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson (KD) and the special investigator Inga-Maj Andersson at a press conference.
Today, two drugs are usually taken during a medical abortion, one at a medical facility and the other can be taken in the home. The new proposal means that a medical abortion can be fully implemented at home. However, the abortion applicant must continue to turn to a healthcare facility at an initial stage.
In addition, the right to abortion must be clarified in the law, says Inga-Maj Andersson at the press conference.
Swedish abortion legislation was introduced in 1975. Now it will be rewritten with regard to the medical development that has taken place since then.
