(Finance) – The collaboration between the ABI and the Department of Public Safety is strengthened with the signing of the new Memorandum of Understanding which has the aim of strengthening participatory security in the area, achieving higher levels of citizen protection and making the complex and detailed activity of preventing and combating crime carried out daily more and more effective by the Police Force. Some important innovations have been introduced in the new text which mainly concern the monitoring and prevention of emerging risk scenarios and the exchange of data and knowledge on the subject of Artificial Intelligence.
This initiative – explains the note – is confirmed in the 2023 results: bank robberies decreased by 35.5%, with significant drops also in tobacconists (-23.0%) and at petrol stations (-12.1%). The results, contained in the new edition of the Intersectoral Report on Predatory Crime, highlight the effectiveness of a coordinated approach between institutions and sectors exposed to the phenomenon.
The Report was produced by OSSIF (ABI Research Center on Anti-Crime Security) and by the Criminal Analysis Service of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police, with the participation of Assovalori, Confcommercio–Imprese per l’Italia, Italian Tobacconists Federation, Federdistribuzione, Federfarma, Poste Italiane, Unem-Unione Energie for Mobility, Italiana Petroli and Univ- National Union of Surveillance and Security Services Companies.
“For the banking world – stated the Director General of the ABI, Marco Elio Rottigni – the safety of citizens and employees is an essential priority, a commitment that translates into targeted investments – which in 2023 reached hundreds of millions of euros – training programs and constant collaboration with institutions and police forces. The significant drop in robberies, reduced by 94% in the last ten years, going from 1,246 in 2013 to 80 in 2023, represents a clear and tangible result of this work and underlines the importance of always maintaining high attention. Furthermore – added Rottigni – it is crucial to further strengthen the synergy with the institutions and the Authorities responsible for public order, to effectively face the new challenges arising from a constantly evolving global context”.
“As part of the consolidated collaborative relationship between the Department of Public Security and the Italian Banking Association – stated the Deputy Director General of Public Security – Central Director of the Criminal Police, Prefect Raffaele Grassi – the common objective is to share in a timely manner every element of risk assessment, useful for the purposes of the joint strategic analysis activity developed by the Criminal Analysis Service to prevent and combat crime in an increasingly effective manner and provide citizens with the results of this commitment, contributing to promote the perception of safety. The Police Forces face this challenge with great tenacity. We must continue together on this path.
