FSHD stands for Facio Scapulo Humeral Dystrophy, which is a hereditary, chronic progressive muscle disease in which the skeletal muscles slowly disappear due to a genetic defect. It is one of the most common hereditary muscle diseases in the world. More than 870,000 people worldwide have the muscle disease.

The SingelSwim was organized for the first time in 2015, with the aim of bringing a treatment for FSHD closer. During the seventh edition today, a record amount of 75,973 euros was raised.
