Research in the rubble of the building rue Saint-Jacques in Paris was suspended this Friday, June 23 for security reasons. Wednesday’s explosion and fire ripped through the building, injuring dozens and a victim who is still under the debris.

A woman is still missing. She has been a sewing teacher for twenty years at the Paris American Academy. The school specializing in fashion, whose premises were blown up by an explosion on Wednesday June 21.

The research is suspended, because of a risk of collapse. Yellow beams were laid to support the adjoining building. Once the perimeter is secure, the emergency services can resume their work. The Parisian artery is largely closed. Only the emergency services, the police and the workers who came to reinforce the structures have access to it – including nearly 270 firefighters, who came directly after the explosion on Wednesday afternoon.

The latest provisional assessment of the explosion is six victims in absolute emergency, including three serious burns. A total of 50 injured people were taken care of. The origin of the explosion is still unknown. For the moment, the first elements point to a possible gas leak, which would have left the building.
