Roland Emmerich (The Day After Tomorrow, Godzilla) is working with a development studio on Space Nation Online, a new sci-fi MMORPG. This is reminiscent of EVE Online in the first gameplay. But one detail of the game could make it uninteresting for you.
What do we know about the game? Not that much yet. Space Nation Online is set to be a AAA MMORPG and has a budget of at least $40 million. The goal is to offer an exciting adventure in the vastness of space.
Space Nation Online aims to connect Web 2.0 and Web 3.0 players. In plain language this means: There will be NFTs and blockchain, players can earn real money, but users who are not interested in it should also be able to have some fun time.
They want to unite “Play4Fun and Play2Earn”, they say. So far, however, most cryptocurrency MMORPGs have failed or at least failed to attract a large player base.

Who founded the studio? Behind the game are mainly 4 people who are prominently mentioned on the website:
Together they want to set up a new MMORPG with Space Nation Online. More details can be found in the whitepaper (via SpaceNation).
When does it appear? The MMORPG has been in development for around 3 years and the first alpha tests are scheduled to start in August. The open beta is planned for 2024. There is no release date for the finished version yet.
The game should also only be the prelude to a large franchise. A series and short films are also planned under the same name.
What are your thoughts on Space Nation Online? Does that sound like an interesting MMORPG, or are you more put off by NFTs and blockchain?
