This week Destiny 2 announced the catalyst for the Monte Carlo auto rifle. This is not only elaborately designed. According to Bungie, it is groundbreaking as it is considered the most complex catalyst in the history of the loot shooter – with unprecedented functionality. We’ll show you what he can do.
The Monte Carlo catalyst will make this wish possible: Since the release of the Monte Carlo kinetic automatic rifle in Destiny 2 for Season 8, the community has wished that the weapon’s bayonet blade under the barrel was not just for decoration. Especially since his Exotic abilities are closely tied to a Guardian’s melee combat anyway.
This wish will finally come true. Because Bungie has revealed a new weapon catalyst as part of a weapon preview for the upcoming season 22, which makes exactly that possible. And apparently it wasn’t that easy.
Finally we’ve made it. It was mechanically the most complex catalyst we’ve ever made. It required a lot of custom animation work and a lot of things we’ve never done on a weapon before, but we hope you enjoy it.

The Catalyst now allows the Guardians to pierce their opponents with the Monte Carlo bayonet with an obviously devastating melee.

This is how the Guardians reacted: On the Destiny Reddit, the eyes lit up and the words “Finally I can stab!” But the damage also drew many in, as in the video the base knife melee did 7,534 damage. However, the bayonet melee does 116,019 damage.
Others are already dreaming of synergies with certain armor exotics, like the Titan’s Synthoceps or the Warlock’s Nectrotic Grasps.
Whether the catalyst will actually change the position of the Monte Carlo in the PvE or PvP meta remains to be seen. But for those who are already fans of the auto rifle, this addition fulfills a long-held wish and reinforces the weapon’s core fantasy.
The guardians also paid special attention to the enormous damage that can be seen in the short video. The player Ktown0214 has broken this down further.
However, others, like player Rikiaz, are cautious, noting, “Don’t take that number to heart. Test footage almost always has completely different numbers than the live version.”
Here you should also keep in mind that the values may also have been influenced by buffs, exotics and the duality dungeon. The exact values in the live game could therefore differ.
How do you get the catalyst? This is not exactly known yet. It could just drop into playlists, or Bungie might have put it in a mission because of its uniqueness.
But it is clear that it will be available from Season 22, i.e. from August 22nd. On the same day, Bungie will also hold its annual Destiny 2 Showcase to reveal more about the upcoming Season and forthcoming The Final Form expansion.
