A weapon from the Elden Ring DLC annoys players because it is so bad

Elden Ring’s DLC has not only given it good new weapons. One is considered particularly bad – an opinion shared by many in the community.

Which weapon is it? Among the more than 100 new weapons in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, there are some that are surprisingly strong. If you choose the perfume bottles or the new impact shields, you can make boss fights much easier.

Players have long since recognized this and are using the powerful weapons to get through the challenging expansion more easily. However, not all weapons have been noticed in a positive way. One is even considered particularly notorious – and not in a good way.

We’re talking about the Caria Magic Sword. You can find it in a chest in Ensis Castle. The weapon isn’t particularly difficult to get, which is probably why many players have not only discovered it, but also tried it out.

It is a thrusting sword that scales with strength, dexterity and intelligence. But the latter value in particular is sometimes the reason why the community describes the sword as bad.

The weapon disappoints across the board

Why is the sword bad? User DisAccount4SRStuff explains in a post on Reddit why he thinks the Caria Magic Sword is the biggest disappointment in the DLC, and even the entire game.

For one thing, the weapon’s scaling would be terrible. It would do less damage than the Ghostflame Torch with light attacks. Also, weapons that don’t scale with intelligence but can be enchanted would do significantly more damage.

Another disadvantage is that the sword comes with a pretty boring war ash and cannot be infused. The magic scaling is also really bad – overall the weapon just doesn’t make a good impression.

The user describes it as a “slap in the face” and asks, visibly angry: “Why is FromSoftware doing this? I would prefer if this thing didn’t exist in its current state.”

What do other players say? The user is not alone in his opinion. Many comments under the Reddit post agree with him:

  • “When I read the title, I immediately knew what weapon I would see if I clicked on the image,” writes Ameliorated_Potato on Reddit.
  • “Yes, this thing is junk. I was very, very disappointed,” agrees user InfiniDragon in his post on Reddit.
  • “It’s so bad, it must be bugged,” wonders hipdashopotamus on Reddit.
  • In fact, anyone who has been disappointed with the sword so far should give it another chance now. Because, as requested on Reddit, the weapon has been adjusted in the latest patch. Whether this will actually make it usable remains to be seen in practice. You can find the exact patch notes for version 1.12.3 on MeinMMO.
