According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, strong seismic activity was detected near the Fagradalsfjall volcano shortly after 5 am local time. The eruption started around six in the morning local time.

This is the third volcanic eruption in the area since December.

According to the Icelandic authorities, contingency plans have been activated and the development of the situation is being monitored.

According to Icelandic media Ruvi, the nearby area of ​​Grindavik has been ordered to be evacuated. For example, there are tourists in the area who have been ordered to leave the hotels.
