A volcanic eruption is underway again on the Reykjanes peninsula in south-west Iceland, says the Icelandic Broadcasting Company RÚV.

The coastal town of Grindavík has been evacuated once again. This is the fifth eruption in the same area this year. However, according to current information, the lava is not flowing towards the city. The lava flow is moving northwest at a speed of two kilometers per hour towards the Grindavíkurvegur road, which runs lengthwise across the island.

Railo is now 3.9 kilometers long.

The volcanic eruption, which started at half past one Finnish time this morning, was preceded by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 according to the European and Mediterranean Seismological Center EMSC.
