A user buys a game on his PS4 and receives almost 100 euros back 9 years after the purchase

A player bought the game “The Crew” 9 years ago and surprisingly got his money back. This is rather unusual as the PS Store usually only gives money back for 14 days.

Typically, the chances of getting your money back for a digital game are very slim. Providers such as Steam or Epic Games offer a limited refund, but this is only valid for a short period of time.

A player has now said that he received a refund of almost 100 euros for a game that was released in 2015. This is what our colleagues from Comicbook.com report.

Players get almost 100 euros back from the PlayStation Store for the game that has been discontinued

What did the player do? Ubisoft discontinued the online racing game “The Crew” on April 1, 2024 and switched off the servers. At the same time, the company pulled the game from the PlayStation Store and other digital stores where it had been available.

However, the said player has now managed to issue a refund for his purchase made almost ten years ago. This is what he writes himself on reddit:

I bought the game in 2015 and haven’t played much since then. On March 31, 2024, I contacted PlayStation Support to get a refund because the game stopped working, and to my surprise, it was actually refunded.

He backs up the whole story with a screenshot where you can see the confirmation of the refund from Sony and also the corresponding amount. In a second picture you can see the invoice for the contribution of 94.99 US dollars.

Why is this surprising? Normally, you can only get a refund on PlayStation Store within 14 days of purchase, not nine years later. And even then you have to be lucky that the return is approved.

We don’t know if this is an isolated case, but a refund after nine years is something you don’t typically experience on PlayStation.

The end of “The Crew” is bigger than expected: Because of the shutdown, Ubisoft will probably also withdraw the licenses of the players who paid for the game at the time. This is probably to prevent owners from being able to reinstall the game. Many players are disappointed about this:
