Miika Kirmula won the orienteering world cup long distance competition in Kuopio. At the same time, the competitions are World Cup preliminaries.
Kirmula clearly dominated the competition and beat the second-placed Swede by Martin Regborn in 44 seconds. The Finnish success was complemented by Eetu Savolainen in third place.
This summer, Kirmula won EC bronze by a long way.
Winning a World Cup competition is not an everyday thing for a Finnish man. Pasi Ikonen won the World Cup race in 2011 in the Czech Republic. Mårten Boström was sprint world champion in Vuokatti in 2013.
The women’s competition was overwhelmingly won by Sweden Tove Alexandersson. Venla Harju was fifth as the best Finn. Miia Niittynen it was 10 Maija Sianoja 11th and Marika Teini 12:s.
