With sparkling and misty eyes, Faouzia Charfi, Tunisian physicist, evokes her intellectual friend – “ scholar » some even say – with nostalgia. “ He was attractive intellectually, physically, she said. He was a pleasant friend and above all very cultured. You could listen to it for hours. But still, he was a tormented man. He was rebellious, but magnificently intelligent. »
A bright restless one. As a tribute, there were readings of his texts. Sciences, history, philosophy, religion and even poetry, Abdelwahhab Meddeb was passionate about all disciplines.
A documentary depicting him in the streets of Tunis gave the illusion that he was there that evening: “ All the past was colored with a fresh palette that had not had time to dry. I recognized many faces among the passers-by. Their names, their origins, their genealogy unfolded before my eyes “.
At a time when bombs are decimating the Middle East, a region that Meddeb was particularly fond of, everyone said yesterday that her voice, more than ever, was missing.
