Microsoft is reportedly working on a new Windows self-healing feature that will restore a PC without resetting it and without losing personal data, with a tool built into Windows Update. Magical ?
The versions in development of Windows – the famous builds for Insiders that anyone can test for free on their PC (see our articles on Windows updates and the Windows Insider program) – give a glimpse of the next evolutions of the system and what’s new to expect. In the latest Windows 11 build 25284, released on January 25, 2023, in addition to managing major Windows updates, Microsoft has tackled an important point: system repair. And, more precisely, to a self-repair function without loss of personal data and, above all, without a complete reset of the PC! A function not really very sexy – not enough to attract the eye of lovers of novelties on the interface… –, but which could prove to be very practical in the event of a problem – which is never to be excluded with Windows, even if the system is infinitely more stable and reliable than before.
Windows Update: soon a tool to easily repair the system?
Even today, when Windows becomes unstable and has many bugs, the best solution to get the PC back on its feet is to use Media Creation Tool. This free tool offered for download by Microsoft makes it possible to repair Windows thanks to an update of the PC. By checking the box Upgrade this PC now present in the tool, the most recent version of the system will be reinstalled, correcting any errors along the way. It is also possible, still thanks to Media Creation Tool, to carry out a “clean” installation of the system (clean install), just to start from scratch with a brand new system… but losing in the process everything that has been installed on the PC (read our practical sheet). A procedure that can sometimes be complex to set up, especially for beginners.
However, in the version of Windows under development, Microsoft has obviously integrated directly into the system settings, this very useful function present in the Media Creation Tool. Thus appeared an option called Fix problems using Windows Update from settings System > Recovery.
In other words, this option makes it possible to reinstall the version in place of Windows without having recourse to Media Creation Tool. A comfortable and faster way to get an unstable Windows back on its feet without having to download an additional tool. However, this option does not seem to be activated yet in build 25284. However, we can’t wait to see it in operation.
