The Swedish aid agency Sida’s review shows that no Swedish aid money goes to terrorist activities in the Palestinian territories. Now Morgan Johansson, foreign policy spokesperson for the Social Democrats, is demanding that the government and the Sweden Democrats resume development aid.

“The government’s aid freeze turned out to be just empty symbolic politics,” says Johansson in a text message to TT, adding that he hopes that “mistrust and inaccuracies” are now over.

He hopes that aid can be resumed “as soon as possible”.

“Continued halting aid would only play into Hamas’s hands, as it would mean weakening the democratic forces in Palestinian society.”

Development Minister Johan Forssell (M) writes in a comment that Sida’s report must now be analysed.

“It is a priority for the government that Swedish tax money is used in the right way. We will therefore now carefully analyze and evaluate the content in order to assess whether there are outstanding issues that need additional documentation.”
