Last Sunday, March 2, 2025, the LEC Winter 2025 final took place in League of Legends. In a best-of-5, a fairly new team managed to push the favorites from the throne of the LEC.
What is the LEC? The LEC (League of Legends EMEA Championship) is the largest league for League of Legends in Europe. One season of the LEC is held in 4 tournaments. The winter, spring and summer split are the first 3 tournaments of the year. The LEC season ends with the season finale and the three best teams can take part in the World Championships.
Who were the champions of the LEC? The team G2 eSports has been one of the strongest LEC teams for years. With a total of 16 titles, it is the team with the most LEC victories in history. In 2024 they won each of the three splits and the season finale.
Of the last eight LEC tournaments, they won a whole seven. But now they have been beaten by newcomers who have so far been inconspicuous.
Which newcomers were you beaten by? The Karmine Corp team had its debut in the LEC at the Winterplit 2024. In their first and second tournament, they ended up in last place. An increase later came to fourth place in the summer split. Since then, Karmine Corp has been under the radar.

The champions of the European league were destroyed
How did the final of the final go? The first round was excellent for Karmine Corp. Every lane was won and the Midlaner “Vladi” was able to play very dominant with the Champion Taliyah. An end result of 21 to 9 for Karmine Corp was the first surprise of the final.
In the second match there was still hope for G2 eSports. After a gold advantage for karmine, G2 was able to fight back a bit. With many drakes, two barons and the new buff from the Epic Jungle Monster Atakhan, Karmine Corp was able to prevail at the end. The second match came to an end with an end result of 18 to 9.
The third and last match was balanced at the beginning. After a catastrophic struggle for the Drake, G2 was literally torn. Since then, G2 has not been able to get another kill and was destroyed by Karmine Corp. The last game of the final came to an end with 24 to 6.
The Midlaner Vladi from Karmine Corp was recognized as MVP of the tournament.
Karmine Corp destroyed the LEC giant G2 eSport in the final with 3-0 and is now a LEC champion. With this achievement, Karmine Corp has secured a place in the season finale.
Only a few believed in Karmine Corp
What has changed in Karmine Corp? The team already played finale against G2 eSports in the Upper Bracket. With a 3 to 1 for G2, they had to give up and had another hurdle to get into the final.
The Botlaner “Caliste” by Karmine Corp did not reach Kills or Assists in the first game against G2 and was only a punching bag for G2 with seven deaths. In the following matches he was not present and had difficulty finding into the game. Caliste later apologized to X.com.
Due to this performance and the LEC giant G2 eSports as opponents, the chances for Karmine Corp looked bad. In the important finale of the LEC Winter 2025, however, Caliste was able to prove himself and show that he is one of the strongest botlaners in Europe.
The newcomers provided high numbers of spectators
How many people watched at the final? Over 800,000 spectators have followed the eSports highlight via Twitch. The previous record of the tournament was almost 600,000. The records were set up in the Upper Bracket Finals by Karmine Corp against G2 Esports and the final of the same teams.
Many of the spectators were from France, the home country of Karmine Corp. The French streamer and co-founder of Karmine Corp “Kamet0” stream the final for over 200,000 French LOL players (via streamscharts.com).
In the data from escharts.com you can see the number of viewers of all games. Karmine Corp played in each of the matches that are at the top of this list.
