Henry Cavill has shown his talent in many great roles. Being Clark Kent/Superman in Man of Steel is terrific though. The origin story about the DC protector of humanity is also one of the actor’s favorite performances. Only one scene has been bothering him for almost 10 years. Because of his grin.

It is a scene at the very end of the film. With all the meanies defeated, Kent (Cavill) grins and converses with foster mother Martha (Diane Lane). His smile was perhaps intended as an expression of melancholy or shyness, but only has a disturbing effect on Cavill. And he’s not entirely wrong.

He told the Hollywood Reporter:
There’s this scene at the end of Man of Steel. I’m talking to Martha. I would have liked to have smiled differently. Whenever I see the scene I think: That’s a completely disturbing smile. I do not like it. Why did I smile like that? I don’t usually smile like that.
True, upon closer inspection, Cavill’s facial expressions look unnatural. Even for an indestructible alien. But ultimately the actor also chastise himself because of an unimportant detail. Man of Steel is an absolute DC highlight, not least because of Cavill’s performance. A crooked grin cannot harm the man of steel.
