The leaders of Poland, Germany and France will meet on Friday in Berlin for an emergency summit devoted to Ukraine, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced.
“On Friday, I will be in Berlin with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to discuss the situation,” declared Donald Tusk, during an interview with the public television channel TVP Info broadcast Tuesday evening, after his meeting with US President Joe Biden in Washington.
Donald Tusk and Polish President Andrzej Duda were received Tuesday in Washington by American President Joe Biden whose administration showed, despite a blockage in Congress, its support for Ukraine by announcing new military aid to kyiv. The tripartite summit will be held at a time when the Franco-German relationship seems to be weakened, notably following differences over Ukraine.
Poland, one of kyiv’s staunchest allies, has repeatedly urged its Western partners to increase spending on military aid to counter the Russian invasion. With a new pro-European government, Poland seeks to strengthen cooperation with Berlin and Paris in the face of Moscow. “In my opinion, these three capitals have the task and the power to mobilize all of Europe” to provide new aid to Ukraine, said Donald Tusk.
