While the Rouen Court of Appeal revoked the couple’s placement under an electronic bracelet, which could lead them to be imprisoned following their conviction for tax evasion, Isabelle Balkany allegedly attempted suicide according to Patrick Balkany. Asked about BFM TV to react to this new legal decision, the former mayor of Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine) announced that his wife had been taken care of a few moments earlier by the Samu: “I was downstairs, I was talking with my lawyer, and she swallowed a box of je ne sais quoi”. These would be barbiturates, as the septuagenarian later indicated to RTL.
Third suicide attempt for Isabelle Balkany
The state of health of the former first assistant of Levallois is not known, but the concern is deep for her husband: “she had said: ‘I will not go to prison, I am removing myself’. She will still be between life and death”. Again, because this is not the first time that Isabelle Balkany has been taken to hospital for such reasons. Twice, already, the ex-elected now 74 years old had tried to end her life: it was May 2, 2019 after an intriguing post on social networks, saying she was “tired” and wanting “take a big nap”. She finally got away with it, as after her second attempt, on April 26, 2020, by swallowing a box of medication.
Thursday February 3, 2022, a few minutes before Patrick Balkany’s passage on BFM TV, his wife had posted an interrogative message on social networks, all the same suggesting fatal thoughts: “I just want to sleep, SLEEP … Exhausted by age, mine, hatred, others, l anguish for the man in my life, the incurable wound of the “scrub” of what I was able to do positive… Thank you to those who made me happy to love me… and to my 4-legged loves”. And this, accompanied by a photo with a message: “it’s time for it to stop.”
The day before, Isabelle Balkany had posted an equally evasive photo, of a person crossing a footbridge to head into the fog. “Evening mood…” she wrote. Their side, his lawyers, Me Pierre-Olivier Sur and Clara Gérard-Rodriguez, had decried the decision of the Rouen Court of Appeal highlighting the age and state of health of their client: “75 years old , in an extremely degraded physical and psychological state, Isabelle Balkany has already lost everything during this criminal procedure which will have lasted nearly ten years: her political functions, almost all of her heritage, her honor… And the name of the Balkanys became the catalyst for public opprobrium, even hatred”.
