Parts of the Titan submarine were found on the seabed yesterday. The professor speculates that the ship’s hatch or windows could have given way under high pressure.
The people who were inside the Titan submarine barely had time to notice a fault in the ship when it was already flattened under pressure, believes a professor who has studied hundreds of ship accidents Lawrence Brennan of the Swedish news agency TT in the interview.
Parts of the Titan, which went missing on Sunday, were found yesterday on the seabed near the wreck of the Titanic.
According to Brennan, the force of a ship’s flattening can be compared to a rapidly plummeting airplane or the flattening of a full can.
– Simply put, it can be compared to when a big person steps on a full beer can. The pressure overcomes the metal and forces all the beer out, he says.
Brennan speculates that the ship’s hatch or windows may have given way under the immense pressure.
– The incident didn’t happen close to the surface, so it could have happened so quickly that they didn’t realize they were dying. They might be dead before they realized something was wrong.
Also a rear admiral in the US Coast Guard John Mauger estimated on Thursday evening, Finnish time, that the pressure vessel carrying the crew of five has failed in a catastrophic way and collapsed.
The investigation into the accident continues
American magazine of the Wall Street Journal according to sources, sounds had been heard from the area a few hours after the ship dived.
The Navy believes the extraordinary sound was caused by the destruction of the Titan.
It is known that the submarine was destroyed as a result of the water pressure, but it is still unclear how exactly the accident happened and how soon after the start of the journey the ship capsized.
The authorities have found parts of the submarine about 480 meters away from the bow of the Titanic wreck at a depth of almost 4000 meters.
Titanic director: The company acted irresponsibly
Concerns related to Titan have been discussed extensively in connection with the search.
Titanic director and deep sea explorer James Cameron’s before the tragedy, several warnings about the safety of the tourist submarine were ignored.
Cameron commented on the submarine tragedy in an interview with ABC News.
In 2012, Cameron became the first person to dive alone into the deepest part of the ocean.
According to Cameron, the company acted irresponsibly and the tragedy also had echoes of the Titanic itself. The management personnel of both ships had been warned about the dangers several times in advance.
– The (Titanic) captain was repeatedly warned about the ice in front of his ship, but still he towed at full speed onto the ice field on a moonless night, and many people died as a result, Cameron describes to ABC News.
– And the fact that a very similar tragedy, where warnings were ignored, happened in exactly the same place — I think it’s amazing. It’s really surreal, he adds.
Among other things, the 2018 legal proceedings, in connection with which OceanGate’s former director of maritime operations, have come to the fore David Lochridge claimed he had been fired for voicing his concerns about Titan. He had described the ship’s model as experimental and untested.
