The World Health Organization (WHO) announced last month that the monkeypox epidemic still continues to constitute an international public health emergency.
The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control announced last August that it was likely that more cases of external monkeypox would be seen in Europe, but that a permanent threat in Europe was low.
Sierra Leone Minister of Health Dr. Austin Demby said the confirmation of 2 cases of Monkeypox in the country warranted action under the Public Health Act. Demby said, “On behalf of the government of Sierra Leone, I declare a public health emergency.”
