A situation was seen in the Swedish SHL on Thursday, for which Timrå’s Albin Lundin was subsequently banned for three games and fined.
On Thursday, a strange situation was seen in the SHL, the highest league level of men’s ice hockey in Sweden, when the forward of Timrå IK Albin Lundin skated from the substitution box towards Timrå’s offensive end and collided with the linesman who skated backwards to Rickard Nilsson.
Nilsson fell on his back in the situation, Lundin continued to skate towards the game.
Lundin, who is playing his third season as Timrå’s vice-captain, was not punished for the situation during the match. However, the SHL’s situation room reported the player to the disciplinary board of the Swedish Hockey Association. A few hours after reporting, Lundin was banned for three matches and fined 10,000 Swedish kronor, or about one thousand euros.
The situation, which looked like an accident, has also been discussed in the social media service X (formerly Twitter).
The report stated the verdict as follows: “The Committee notes that Albin Lundin was indifferent to the collision with the judge in the case. It is also worth noting that Lundin did not pay any attention to the incident after the collision.”
Timrå’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen was unhappy with Lundin’s sentence.
– We are complaining about it. I can’t believe such a decision. I have to read the judgment first before I say anything, Kapanen told SVT.
Kapanen added that the team has different views than the disciplinary board.
The player himself was angry about the verdict.
– They are lying, I am so angry, Lundin expressed his feelings For Expressen.
– When the whistle blew, I went to the referee and apologized for the situation. I said several times that it was not on purpose. The judge answered me that he doesn’t feel bad about what happened. However, he said he would check the situation afterwards, which I understand because that is his job.
