A singer who is not allowed to have a boyfriend accidentally showed her boyfriend – is now being punished severely

Members of Japanese bands have strict rules when it comes to relationships that they must abide by. A Japanese idol has now broken these rules and has to post a selfie every night as punishment.

A notice: The cover photo is merely a symbolic image and does not represent the actual woman in the article.

Who is it about? This is Momoka Tojo, a member of the band KATACOTO*BANK. The band consists of seven women and was founded in 2021. The songs are entirely in Japanese and mostly spread a happy mood.

Only a month after Momoka Tojo joined the band, she had to assert herself after a mistake.

Accidental post causes uproar

What exactly happened? On July 23, 2024, Momoka Tojo celebrated her 20th birthday. Her boyfriend was also there, with whom she took some selfies. When the band member posted information about her upcoming performance, she accidentally uploaded a collage of these selfies as well.

What are the consequences? The idol officially apologized on her X-account on July 27, 2024. In the apology, she asked her fans for forgiveness and promised to reflect on her behavior. Such a situation would not happen again and she will work to regain the trust of her fans.

As punishment, Momoka Tojo must now follow two rules:

  • She has to maintain a certain distance from her boyfriend.
  • Every evening she has to post a selfie of herself alone.
  • Fans are also allowed to express any suspicion of rule violations.

Why is Momoka Tojo’s behavior bad? In Japan, most celebrities are encouraged not to have public relationships and to keep their love lives completely secret. This is often because they want to maintain an image of “purity” and “innocence”.

In addition, fan loyalty is very important, so members should be seen as “available.” Some fans are very passionate and may see a relationship with their favorite idol as a kind of betrayal. It is unclear whether these rules apply to every Japanese band.

The hype surrounding Asian bands has increasingly spread to Germany in recent years. One particularly popular genre is K-Pop, or Korean Pop. Fans of the band BTS can also be very passionate: BTS fans find it totally unfair that LoL stars like Faker are treated better than their favorites
