The plane suddenly lost altitude but was able to land at Bangkok airport in Thailand.
Singapore Airlines says that one person has died and several others have been injured after the company’s plane flew into strong turbulence over the Andaman Sea near Myanmar.
It is not known how serious the injuries are. It has also not been said whether it was a passenger or a crew member who lost their life.
The plane was a Boeing 777-300ER model. There were 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board.
The passenger plane took off from London’s Heathrow airport on Tuesday and was on its way to Singapore when the turbulence hit. The plane had to land at Bangkok airport in Thailand a little before 4 o’clock local time.
According to the news agency AP, the plane was flying at an altitude of 11,300 meters when it suddenly lost altitude and ended up at 9,400 meters in a few minutes. From there, it landed in less than half an hour at Bangkok airport, where there were numerous ambulances rushing to the scene.
