A sick sum – that’s how much the Öberg sisters can earn at the WC

A sick sum thats how much the Oberg sisters

Lenzerheide in Switzerland is being prepared for a Biathlon World Cup that will take place February 10-23. Several Swedish hopefuls will participate and compete for the noblest denominations in the competition which is seen as the highlight of the season.

How has the season been for our Swedish hopes so far?

The start of the season has contributed to mixed success from our Swedish skaters. Hoping to top their form ahead of the WC, there are skaters who usually finish high who have had a tougher start to the season.

The season started in Finnish Kontiolahti with the World Cup, which then moved on to Austrian Hochfilzen and French Annecy. At the time of writing, the World Cup weekend in the classic German ski resort of Oberhof is about to get underway. So how have the Swedes fared?

In the World Cup, we find two Swedish skaters in the top ten on the women’s side and one Swede in the top ten on the men’s side.

In fifth place with 354 points we find Sebastian Samuelsson who have started the season strongly, both in individual races but also in relays.

On the women’s side we find Elvira Öberg in second place behind German Franziska Prussia. Öberg has collected a total of 371 points. Then we also have the doldis Ella Halvarsson in ninth place with 250 points which made a big impact.

For those who are not familiar with biathlon, Ella Halvarsson was an unknown name before the season. In the opening competitions of the season, she made a big breakthrough with several podium places. In an interview with News24 she told about the successes.

– I’ve never been kicked out before. Even though I haven’t been to the World Cup, I’ve still done well for myself at the IBU. Now I’ve had a really good training year where I’m taking steps. Then you notice that we are a very strong women’s team, so if you are not really top, you will not get a place there. I’ve been right outside now for quite a few years and then you can’t see.

She filled in:

– I wouldn’t say that I feel that much pressure either from myself or from the management here. I think it’s more that many expect more. If I make the top 30, then probably others don’t think it’s so good anymore. If I had only made the top 30, it would have been great. From my own point of view, I’m kind of satisfied.
