Manchester City, the multiple Premier League champion coached by Pep Guardiola, is currently in a rare losing streak.
Manchester City, winners of the last four English Premier League titles, suffered their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions for the first time since 2006 on Saturday.
Brighton rose in the Premier League Erling Haaland’s despite the 1–0 goal he finished in a home win over Manchester City, when João Pedro tied the score at 1–1 in the 78th minute and Matt O’Riley scored Brighton’s 2–1 winning goal four minutes later.
One of the reasons for City’s miserable spell is the midfielder Rodrin injury. The Spanish Rodri, who is sidelined for the rest of the season due to a knee injury, was recently voted the best male soccer player in the world and was awarded the Golden Ball trophy.
Former Aston Villa and Brighton midfielder Steve Sidwell claimed to the BBC that Brighton would “never” have scored another goal if Rodri had played in City’s midfield.
City, which had more possession of the ball, won the struggle in scoring attempts 15–10, shots on goal 6–4 and corner kicks 4–0.
In addition to Brigton, City has recently lost 1-2 to Tottenham in the League Cup, 1-2 to Bournemouth in the Premier League and 1-4 to Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Despite the loss, City is still second in the league with 23 points. League leader Liverpool can increase the gap to five points, however, if they beat Aston Villa at Anfield today in the evening match.
