A snowstorm approaching Finland has badly messed up traffic in the southern parts of Norway and Sweden.
The airport in Norway’s capital, Oslo, was closed during the day, and heavy snowfall has hampered road, rail and water traffic as well. All bus services have been canceled for safety reasons in Oslo and nearby Bærum. Train service to the east is at a standstill. The subways are also late due to the power outage during the day, says the Norwegian broadcasting company NRK.
The snowfall is so strong that, for example, the pilots can’t see the pilot lights on the field.
– We recommend that you do not travel today, says the person in charge of Oslo’s public transport Ruter company on their website.
The backlog of taxi orders is so severe that the Oslo Taxi company does not accept orders through its app for the time being.
Several traffic accidents in Skåne
In Skåne in southern Sweden, heavy snowfall has led to several crashes, delays and restriction of truck traffic, Swedish television SVT reports.
The E22 road was closed in the afternoon due to the number of accidents. Visibility is poor and the roads are slippery. The police and rescue services have urged people to stay inside.
In Värmland in central Sweden, a snow storm has caused a lot of delays in public transport. Trains have been canceled in Halland in southwestern Sweden and on the E6 road south of Laholm was stopped during the day truck traffic for safety reasons.
The blizzard is advancing to eastern Sweden and towards Finland. In Finland, the effects start to be seen as early as Wednesday evening.
